THE BIG DAY ARRIVES
( Twenty First in a series of articles de- scribing the forma- tion of City Light Coalition, Inc., and the occurrence of the 1997 Tony Evans Crusade.)
Sunday, May 18, 1967: e rst day of the Crusade had arrived. We had worked for fourteen months in prepara- tion. We had prayed. We had daily prayer groups from participating churches meet- ing in the upstairs prayer room in the headquarters at the corner of Elmwood and Main for the last three months prior to the Crusade. We had six or eight full- time, unpaid volunteers working there daily, six days a week. Additionally, nu- merous part-time volunteers were assisting with mail outs. A team of operators was manning a telephone bank, making calls to churches, preparing and handing out brochures, soliciting participation, as well as calling businesses to solicit use of their signs and billboards.

TERROR ON THE LAKE
When Keith was born, he charmed his Dad and me right from the start. His beau- tiful red hair became so curly it looked as if angels had a hey- day spinning auburn
colored corkscrews, and plopped them down all over his head. e rst time I held him, he smiled at me signaling that he was going to be a wonderful child to rear...that turned out to be true. Keith grew up being an obedient son, most of the time hardly ever needing an old fashioned spanking. I can only remember a handful of times when that was necessary, and at seventeen, on June 18, 1989, that obedi- ence factor would save his life and the lives of some of his friends.
It was “Lake Day’ for the teens of First Church of the Nazarene, Columbia, SC, when approximately 20 – 25 teens as- sembled at our house for an afternoon of boating, skiing, shing or swimming. Even though we had owned a Hobie Cat catamaran for several years, Keith had not shown any interest in learning to sail... until the morning of “lake day” when he
