TRAPPED
(Living the Life of a Lesbian) by: Luella Redfern
Several years ago my husband intro- duced me to a waitress at a local res- taurant. She was a very nice young lady, loving her job and one of the best waitresses in the place. Later he informed me that this young lady is living in a same sex relationship. She’s his favorite waitress. After serving him for several months and listening to him talk about his love for the Lord and how wonderful it is to have a personal relationship with Christ, she walked up to him one morning and said, “Rev. Redfern I don’t want to go to hell’. As only Bishop Redfern could say, he said,
her that God loves her. She became so comfortable with Bishop Redfern that her companion started asking questions. Who is this man? Why is he calling you this time of morning? Does he have a Wife? Mara shared with us about her addiction and the abusive relationships of her past. She told us all about how her ex-husband hurt her. How she had been beaten and abused by men all of her life. She told us how she had been hurt, rejected, and misunderstood by church folk. How they were rude when she sought help. ey told her that she was cursed and would go to

Every time he visited that restaurant Red- fern took the time to listen to her stories. ey exchanged phone numbers and he became her Facebook friend. He calls her all the time, sometimes as early as 3:00 am. I believe this young lady, who I will call Mara is confused about her sexuality. She doesn’t understand why Bishop Red- fern cares so much about her. He ministers to her at the restaurant or by phone day and night. He calls her when he’s out of the country in Africa or India. He calls her from Tennessee or Florida. No matter what the time zone is, he makes her feel really special. When he was in the UK he called her to share the gospel and to tell

hell. She has so much anger about church folk and so called Christians. She told us about all the hypocrites that have turned their backs on her. She said Rev. Redfern, “why do you care about me?” His response, “because God Loves you.” Bishop Redfern maintains a good relationship with Mara because he is honest with her. She talked about her current relationship, saying, “We don’t do nothing, we’re just companions”. Bishop Redfern responded, “I wish I could tell you that God says homosexuality is ne, but to be honest with you, I can’t. e bible speaks against sexual immoral- ity.
