H. L. Allen, Jr.
Co-Founder of
Greater Columbia Call To Prayer
H. L. Allen, Jr. and his wife Janie are resi- dents of Lexington, SC. H. L. was born on a farm in Morristown, TN. At a young age his family moved to Kingsport, TN. He grew up and attended schools in the Kingsport area. He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at the age of eleven. On August 19, 1962, H. L. was or- dained as a deacon in the Baptist Church. He has served on many church and community wide committees.
H. L. graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee (UT) in Knoxville, TN. After graduation from UT, he taught two years at the University and one year at Emory and Henry college in Emory, VA. He began his engineer- ing career with Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, TN. After obtaining his Professional Engi- neering license he moved to Columbia, SC during Eastman’s expansion to South Carolina. After many years with Eastman Kodak, H. L. took an early retirement and obtained his real estate license. Following a brief time in the real estate market, H. L. joined the South Caro- lina Department of Transportation as a Proj - ect Engineer. Years later, he retired from the SCDOT and joined a civil engineering f irm as a Project Manager coordinating highway and bridge design. After a varied career in industry, real estate and highway transportation design, God redirected his life to full time ministry.
In early 2007, H. L. and his wife Janie were called to full time ministry and co-founded Greater Columbia Call to Prayer with a focus on praying for revival of the church, spiritual awakening of our communities and transfor- mation of lives in the greater Columbia area.
As God has grown their hearts in prayer and following the Lord in obedience, He has given them the desire to pray corporately with others as His Word instructs. They are involved with assisting and organizing corporate prayer gath- erings in their local church and throughout the greater Columbia area, some of which are con- nected to state, national and world-wide prayer gatherings.
H. L.’s life verse is “Study to show thyself ap- proved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15 KJV His heart’s desire is to leave behind a positive Godly Legacy.
