that prayer I prayed for him in his illness, but I also thanked Jesus for the plan of Salvation. A plan that might be hard to understand because it required us to do absolutely nothing but accept Him by faith. To take what he is holding out to us and we become Christians and inherit eternal life by merely accepting what he is holding out to us.
About two months later, I attended this friend’s funeral. At the funeral his son, who was a Chris- tian, came to me and said, “Joe, I want to tell you, that a number of times I have gone to my Dad and tried to witness to him. Each time he would say, ‘Get out of here with that foolishness. I don’t want to hear it.’ But just a couple of weeks ago I went in to see Dad to try one more time to in- troduce him to Jesus. As I began to talk, he said,
‘Scott, you do not have to say anything.’ And then he told me about your prayer and that while you prayed he had accepted Christ.”
Wow! That was a life-changing event for two, for him because he is now in Heaven and for me because it was God’s gift of encouragement to me to be able to witness for Him.
In writing this article, I would like to encourage you, as Dr. Tony Evans would say, to come out of the closet. Find a way to witness for Him. Je- sus told His disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel. We are His disciples when we witness for Him. How do we make disciples? By being a disciple. But also by finding an effec- tive way and time to use our oral communication to do so.
