Established in 2002 as the brainchild of Benedict College’s Harvard-ed- ucated President, Dr. David H. Swinton, the Benedict College Business Develop- ment Center (BDC) was created with a mission to expand the college’s role and e ectiveness in addressing the economic and business development needs of small and minority businesses. Located at 2601 Read Street in Columbia, South Carolina, the center’s goal is to create jobs, increase business development and provide entre- preneurial opportunities for low-to-mod- erate income persons.
 e Benedict College Business Develop- ment Center’s Mission
Our mission is to act as a catalyst for business development by increasing the economic capacity of small and minority-owned busi- ness in the metropolitan Columbia area and throughout South Carolina.
 e Benedict College Business Develop- ment Center’s Core Objectives:
• Expand and enhance the number of small and minority-owned businesses in the community
• Provide  nancial and technical support, and business training to entrepreneurs
• Reduce business formation overhead costs to small businesses
• Provide a vehicle to increase contract- ing opportunities between small busi- nesses and large corporations
 e Benedict College Business Devel- opment Center is located at 2601 Read Street (at the corner of Read Street and Two Notch Road) in Columbia, SC.
