Perhaps you have wondered at the mat- ter of unity. Can American citizens walk together without some very basic agreements? The ancient prophet Amos asked this pointed question.
“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” Amos 3:3.
He was talking about the disagreement between Israel and her God, Jehovah. But the matter is very pertinent today.
Maybe we can bring this matter closer to daily life if we apply this question to husband and wife. If two people, who be- lieve they love each other, do not discuss important issues prior to their wedding, there is a large likelihood that conten- tion and perhaps even divorce lay ahead of them.
Let’s think of ourselves in relationship to God. God is knowledgeable, wise and powerful enough to create all the heavenly bodies, all the animal and plant life and, of course, the human race. Since he was that
wise, then we should seek to bring our thoughts into agreement with his. God said, “You shall not commit adultery. You shall not murder, bear false witness or cov- et.” Do we deliberately bring our thoughts into agreement with his in these matters? If not, we cannot comfortably walk with God. We are not agreed. Do you suppose that the Creator is wrong about the rules of life he made in the first place? Do you think that the Bible is so unreliable that it is incorrect when it gives us the 10 Com- mandments?
We can challenge ourselves to “walk together” with God by bringing our thoughts under his control.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
Happy walking together with God.
