but with the Lord’s strength. Go forth in love as true soldiers of the Cross, because God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)” Our parents enjoyed 63 years of marriage, prior to our father’s passing 4 years ago. They were a match made in heaven, who together raised 6 children and became godparents to 6 nieces and nephews after the passing of aunt Estelle (mother’s twin sister) and uncle Henry. We all benefited from our parent’s teachings, beliefs and values, which were all rooted in the Word of God. Our father, Hudson Good- win, was a visionary, a community and church leader, a farmer, a lover of God’s earth, an encourager and helped many along the way. He believed in leaving an inheritance for his children (Proverbs 13:22), as our forefathers did. Our parents were also strong advocates of higher education and afforded their children a college education. Below are 10 important nuggets of wisdom imparted by our parents, as noted by my twin sister, Sandra:
1. Put God first in everything and pray with- out ceasing
2. Only what you do for Christ will last.
3. Study and meditate on God’s word daily.
4. When you know better, you must do better.
5. Honor and respect your elders. 6. Tithe
7. Always try to help others.
8. You reap what you sow.
9. Save money and invest it wisely.
10. Love each other and stay together as a family.
While our parents are sorely missed, the rich heritage and wisdom they imparted still lives through our family and so many others who were touched by their lives. As we give honor to God and our parents, we thank our many friends and family for the enormous love, support and prayers we continue to receive. May God richly bless you all.
