Freedom from bondage is the sweet fruit of knowing, believing, and acting on the Truth. WemustrememberthattheTruthisn’t merelyanideaoraphilosophy. TheTruthisa Person---- the Lord Jesus Christ. He said of Himself, “I am the way and the truth and the life”(John14:6). Jesusdidn’tpointtothemto Himself. To those who claimed to be His fol- lowers. (John8:31-32,36)
True followers are found in a vital, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ (the living Word of God) has revealed Himself in theScripture(thewrittenWordofGod). If we want to know Him, if we want to know the Truth, we must devote ourselves to the read- ing, studying and meditation of His Word. There’s no substitute and there are no shortcuts.
The Enemy is constantly confronting us with his lies. In order to combat his deception, our minds and hearts must be filled with the Lord JesusandsaturatedwithHisWord.
It’snotenoughtoknowtheTruth. Wemust also surrender to the Truth. That means we must be willing to change our thinking or our lifestyle in any areas where they don’t square withtheWordofGod. Millionsofprofessing Christians are deceived; they’re walking in ways that simply are not biblical. Their values are the lie of the Enemy and they embrace the world’s wayofthinking.
We cannot assume a particular viewpoint is true just because everyone else thinks that way, because it’s what we have always believed, or because a well-meaning friend or counselor says it’s right. Everything we believe and everything we do must be evaluated in the light of God’s Word. That’souronlyabsoluteauthority.
Living according to Truth requires a conscious choice to reject deception and to embrace the Truth. That’swhythePsalmistprayed. “Keep me from deceitful ways....I have chosen the way of truth” (Psalm 119:29-30).
Every time we open the Scripture or hear the Word proclaimed, it ought to be with prayer that God will open our eyes to see any areas where we have been deceived, and with a heart
