kitchen door, the door that opened up to the carport. The knocking intensified and sound- ed like a desperate person on the other side as if both fists were being used in rapid-fire succes- sion to take the door down.
I leaped off the sofa, raced to the door, hoping to get there before the person on the outside came crashing through. In my confusion, I could only think: “Who the?” “What the?” “Is this friendorfoe?” “Isitsafetoopenthedoor?”
where we sat down and I began to pray.
“Lord Jesus. Thank you for bringing JoAnn here today. You are the one who has drawn her to yourself and you will surely answer her prayer. Please touch her, her husband and fam- ily. Lethercontinuetoleanonyou. Yousaid that you would welcome all those who come to you. Save JoAnn right now.”
Through her tears, JoAnn prayed. Her prayer was very simple. “Jesus, I am a sinner.
“Gladys, I have driven 150 miles today
in the pouring down rain to get here.
I need Jesus and I want YOU to pray with me right now.”
I opened the door to find my friend, JoAnn, standing there. All of her 4’10” petite body of energy was about to explode as she blurted out with a trembling but commanding voice.
“Gladys, I have driven 150 miles today in the pouring down rain to get here. I need Jesus and I want YOU to pray with me right now. My husband is having an affair and I can’t make it without Jesus!”
As she bowed her head and the sobs overtook her, I wrapped my arms around JoAnn pulling her petite body into mine. I carefully stroked her hair as this precious piece of human- itycrumpledinmyarms. Iledhertothesofa
Pleaseforgiveme. Ineedyou.”
I sat in silence beside JoAnn in wonder at what the Lord had just done. Amazed that Jesus would give me this glorious privilege with such a wonderful friend. JoAnn returned to her hus- band. She had met the one who could deliver her from the storm that had been raging inside which was far worse than the storm that had been raging outside. Jesus saved that marriage and we remained close friends for many years until Joe’s business enterprises moved us out of Louisiana to South Carolina.
