for those difficult times that we are going to face during the course of our journey. They are designed to strengthen our faith and make us stronger. Understanding that life is a process of becoming that which God has destined us to be. It’s His plan, not man’s plan, or even the Dean’s plan.
With Christ, Thelma learned to live her life with a purpose. It’s a process. “For it is God who works in us to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose” Phil 2:13(NIV). As an Army wife and a mother, while her hus- band Lt. Col. (Retired) Orlando Walker was being transferred to one place or another, she continued to manage her household and work for Attorney Stanley. Knowing several law- yers, judges and political leaders in the com- munity and their connections with USC Law School, she waited and relied on man to get her into law school. It wasn’t long after her sec- ond rejection from USC Law School, Thelma realized she was waiting and depending on the wrong man to open the door. It was now time to wait on THE MAN, Jesus, to move. With her faith and believing she would become a Lawyer, It wasn’t until Thelma put her total
trust in Jesus, she was accepted. Not only was the door opened, the walls came down. The ultimate occurred.
God and His infinite wisdom placed Thelma in a bookstore several years later. Much like when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the courtyard, she obtained favor in his sight. One of Thelma’s long time friends, which she had not seen since writing her thesis while a student at Webster University, saw her enter- ing the bookstore. Thelma immediately ob- tained the favor of God. This friend remem- bered her and her desire to go to law school. He inquired. She said “not yet, I am in here to purchase new LSAT books, I refuse to give up.” He encouraged her to apply, telling her Charleston School of Law would be a good fit for her. He was that angel God put in her path as she entered the bookstore.
Thelma applied to law school, was accepted and graduated without ever having to take the GMAT, retake the LSAT, publish an article or get a professor’s recommendation. This is an example of where your trust in God and
