ACHIEVING THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM “LEARNING TO TRUST IN GOD”
By Luella Redfern | Continued from pg 39
perseverance will take you, if you do not give up. WhatGodhasforyouisforyou. Itmay not happen on your time.
Despite rejections, if you persevere and never give up on yourself, God will not give up on you. Manypeoplegiveuponthemselvesand wonder why God has not moved in their lives. You must prepare yourself along the way so that when GOD does move, you are ready. Thelma never stopped preparing herself. She was ready for law school when the door came opened. The naysayers didn’t believe. They didn’t think she had what it took to get into law school or be a lawyer. Little did they know that Jesus had already worked it out. Thelma kept preparing. Whenthetimewasrightthewalls fell down. She was ready for the challenge.
Around the same time Thelma was accepted into Charleston School of Law, her husband was transferred to the Pentagon in Wash- ington DC. With careful consideration and much regrets in leaving her job, she resigned from the Stanley Law Firm and moved to Charleston to devote herself exclusively to her studies. Being appreciative of the personal and professional maturity she developed while working with Stanley, this was not an easy decision. Attorney Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the practice of law was inspi- rational and influenced Thelma to pursue her goal of becoming a Lawyer.
Attorney Thelma Jones-Walker received sev- eral awards and accolades while studying at Charleston School of Law. She received her Juris Doctor in May of 2012. She is certified in Circuit Court Civil Mediation. She was se- lected by Charleston School of Law to receive the 2012 National Association of Women Lawyers Outstanding Law Student Award in recognition of demonstrated contributions to the advancement of Women in Society. She is a recipient of the American Law Institute and
American Bar Association Continuing Pro- fessional Education Scholarship and Leader- ship Award, and an elected member of the James L. Petigru Chapter of the American Inns of Court which is purposed “to create an intimate amalgam and interaction of judges, master lawyers, less experienced barristers, law students and law professors...to enhance directly the ethical and professional quality of legal advocacy in America.”
Attorney Thelma Jones-Walker is my young- er sister. She did not set out to achieve her impossible dream without obstacles. Most peoplewouldhavegivenup. However, with a strong faith in God, keeping him f irst above all things, and a desire to succeed, she contin- ued to press on toward her goal of becoming alawyer. Iamveryproudofheraccomplish- ments. MostofallIamproudofthewoman she is in Christ. God created us to be people of excellence and integrity. Everything we do represents Him. The values instilled in us by our parents, love, kindness, generosity, self- respect, a strong spiritual faith and work ethic will live through us for generations. From legacy to destiny we stand in the footprints ofour ancestors walking in faith, believing in prayer and having a personal relationship with Christ. He has everything you need to achieve your impossible dream.
Thelma has always been a giver of her time and talents. God granted her favor with knowledge and academic training in all as- pectsofthelegalfield. Herloveforpeople and law only grew and she was determined to get into law school and become a Lawyer for allpeople.
