Sharon L. Coefield
Sharon L. Coefield is a native of Kinston, North Carolina. She is the sixth of seven children born to the late Robert and Alice Smith. She was educated in the Eastern North Carolina school systems in Kinston and Wilson, NC. She fur- thered her education at North Car- olina Central University in Dur- ham, NC where she participated in the band (majorette), Business Club, and Queen for various social organizations. During Sharon’s senior year, she was chosen “Miss NCCU” and represented her uni- versity in the April 1977 edition of Ebony Magazine.
In 1986, Sharon and her family moved to Columbia, SC where she began her career with the South Carolina Department of Labor Of- fice of OSHA Voluntary Program. She was very active in the Colum- bia school system from 1986-2003, working in various capacities in- cluding PTSA member for over 15 years holding the positions of secretary, vice-president, and presi- dent. She has also served on the

School Improvement Council and Athletic Booster Club on the mid- dle and high school levels.
She has been a member of Bethel AME Church for over 20 years. She has served as Class Leader, Church Greeter and is a member of Noon-Day Bible Study and Sun- day School. She has also been a member of the Women’s Mission- ary Society for over 20 years and has served as a past president of the Harriet McCombs Unit. She was inducted into the Women’s Mis- sionary Society Hall of Fame in 2012.
Sharon is married to her childhood sweetheart ( Jeffrey) and they have been happily married for 37 years. They have two sons ( Jeffrey and Jerrod) and one grand-daughter ( Jayden).
Sharon is a person who is always available to assist anywhere she can and thoroughly enjoys spending time with her family.
