something. I accept that for them as long
as they are not telling me that God has
told them something for me to do.
But have I ever sensed God steering me,
approving of my direction, or even showing
me that He sees me? Absolutely, although
not very often. I recall a situation back in
1994 when I was President of Precision
Tune, Inc, in Leesburg, Virginia. I was
under extreme pressure by the Board of
Directors to make some decisions and
take some actions with which I did not
agree. The pressure was such that I was
losing sleep at night. As I came from a
particularly intense Board Meeting one
day, feeling the entire Board was against
me, I decided to stop by my home en
route back to the office, hoping to get
some encouragement from my wife. As I
entered the house in total despair, my wife
Gladys approached me.
"Joe, she said, Glen Gardner called while you
were in the Board Meeting. He said he had
to make a series of phone calls to find us but he
had felt an extreme urge to pray for you."
Now, Glen was a pastor and youth leader
in our denomination. I had only met him
once, about ten years earlier, when he had
been invited by my oldest son to come and
speak to the youth of our church. He had
spent the night in our home while he was
here but I had not communicated with
him for a full ten years. I have to say, when
I heard those words tears flowed from my
eyes like a waterfall, because to me it was
God saying, "I see you, Joe, and I know
what you are going through."
Another of the few times when I sensed
the leadership and presence of God
was when we founded City Light and
brought Dr. Tony Evans to Williams
Bryce stadium. There were so many cases
of God's intervention and making His
presence known during that period, that
I could not express them all during this
paper.
To me, the fact that there have been so few
times, or periods, that God has made His
presence so vivid also makes those times
that much more precious. I pray constantly
for wisdom, and trust He gives it to me
to make good decisions. But nothing is
more precious nor reassuring than when
God makes His presence unquestionably
known.
