I
f we recognize
that our Savior
descended from
the Hebrew tribe
of Judah, then we
can also recognize
that understand-
ing some Hebrew
is good counsel.
"Shalom Aleichim"
For thousands of years, our Jewish
brethren have been greeting each
other with the Hebrew blessing,
"shalom aleichem," meaning, "peace
unto you;" with the other person
responding, "unto you peace," or
"aleichem shalom." (Do not con-
fuse this phrase with the Arabic
saying used by Muslims.)
When you look at the Hebraic defi-
nition of shalom, this phrase takes
on a whole new meaning. The He-
brew word shalom isn't limited to
just "peace" or "hello" or "goodbye."
The Hebrew word shalom comes
from a root verb shalam meaning, "to
be complete, perfect, and full." Sha-
lom literally means, "to be in a state
of wholeness with no deficiency."
The Hebrew word shalom specifi-
cally means, "completeness, whole-
ness, soundness, health, peace, safety,
tranquility, prosperity, perfectness,
fullness, rest, harmony, friend, truce,
treaty, and the absence of agitation
or discord." Wow! This one word is
a complete perfect and whole bless-
ing to the person it is given.
No wonder Yahshua (Jesus) is "the
Prince of Peace." For, it is through
Him that we are made whole.
