I
f we recognize that our Savior descended from
the Hebrew tribe of Judah, then we can also rec-
ognize that understanding some Hebrew is good
counsel.
"Tiqvah"
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
says Yahveh (Hebrew Name of our Creator),
thoughts of shalom (peace), and not of evil, to give
you tov (good) tiqvah (hope) in the end. Yirmeyahu
(Jeremiah) 29:11.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses in Scrip-
ture. I, like many of us, quote it often to myself.
When I learned the Hebrew word tiqvah and what it
really means, the verse took on a whole new meaning.
The English translation of the verse uses the phrase
"to give you a good and expected end." The word ex-
pected is translated from the Hebrew word tiqvah,
pronounced tik·vä'. However, the Hebrew word
tiqvah isn't limited to just "expected" or "hope." It's
hard to hope or expect something when you don't
know what to hope or expect for.
The Hebrew word tiqvah comes from a root verb
qavah (kä·vä'), which means, "to hope, to expect, to
wait or look eagerly for, to lie in wait for, to wait and
linger for, to collect, bind together." Tiqvah literally
means, "to expect and wait for a particular outcome."
If we look at the meanings of the Hebrew charac-
ters, which spell the Hebrew word tiqvah, then we
understand what hope it is we are to expect. Tiqvah
is spelled with the Hebrew characters Tav, Qoph,
Vav, Ha. The Hebrew character Tav means, "the total
sum of truth and perfection." The Hebrew character
Qoph means, "holiness and growth cycle." The He-
brew character Vav means, "to add completion and
redemption." The Hebrew character Ha means, "to
reveal life and light, through the breath inside of you."
In Jeremiah 29:11, Yahveh (Hebrew Name of our
Creator) says that He has a plan for each one of us
and that plan includes giving us tiqvah in the end.
The Hebrew characters teach us that all our worry-
ing and fretting about how things are going to turn
out is pointless because Yahveh (Hebrew Name of
Our Creator) has given us something to eagerly
look for. He has given us the expectation of truth
and perfection. He has given us the expectation of
holiness and growth. He has given us the expec-
tation of completion and redemption through His
One and Only Son Yahshua (Hebrew Name of our
Savior). He has given us the expectation of Breath,
which is His Holy Spirit on the inside of each of us.
The excitement of that is the definition of hope.
And Yahshua (Jesus) said to them, I am the lechem
(bread) of chayim (life): he that comes to Me shall
never hunger; and he that believes on Me shall nev-
er thirst. Yochanan (John) 6:35.
Then spoke Yahshua (Jesus) again to them, saying,
I am the Light of the olam hazeh (world): he that
follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have
the Light of chayim (life). Yochanan (John) 8:12.
I am the door: by Me if any man enters in, he shall
be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Yochanan (John) 10:9.
I am the Tov (Good) Shepherd: the Tov (Good)
Shepherd gives His chayim (life) for the sheep. Yo-
chanan (John) 10:11.
Yahshua (Jesus) said to her, I am the resurrection,
and the chayim (life): he that believes in Me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live. Yochanan (John)
11:25.
Yahshua (Jesus) said to him, I am the Derech
(Way), the Emet (Truth), and the Chayim (Life)...
Yochanan (John) 14:6.
Yahshua (Jesus) answered and said to her, ... who-
ever drinks of the mayim (water) that I shall give
him shall never thirst; but the mayim (water) that
I shall give him shall be in him a well of mayim
(water) springing up into everlasting chayim (life).
Yochanan (John) 14:13-14.
But the Comforter, which is the Ruach Hakodesh
(Holy Spirit), whom the Abba (Father) will send in
My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatever I have
said to you. Yochanan (John) 14:26.
I am the Emet (True) Vine, and My Abba (Father)
is The Gardener. Yochanan (John) 15:1.
But when He, the Ruach (Spirit) of Emet (Truth),
has come, He will guide you into all emet (truth)...
Yochanan (John) 16:13.
