E
ach year, the children of the late
Deacon James "Madaddy" Mickens
gather together to honor the memory of
their father, the founder of Holy Light
Tabernacle, in a musical concert. Janu-
ary 14, 2012 marked the twelve year
anniversary of his passage from this
world to the Heavenly Promised Land.
The purpose of the memorial ser-
vice is to remember and honor the life
and legacy of Deacon Mickens. His
children describe him as a man af-
ter Yahveh's (God) own Heart, who
taught his family about the love of
Yahveh (God) described in John 3:16.
Deacon Mickens loved music and in-
stilled the value of spreading the gos-
pel through song in his children. The
program featured singing sensations
Ya'acov, Todd Mickens and the Sons of
unity, Rev. Matthew Mickens and the
New Highway Travelers, and others.
Each of his fourteen children pres-
ent gave words in memory of the great
example Deacon Mickens lived be-
fore his family. The theme surrounded
the lessons he taught his family about
following Messiah Yahshua (Jesus).
The energy of love was ever so present
in the building. The prayer of his chil-
dren is a prayer asking Yahveh (God)
to show them the way, give them the
will to live, and to work so that they
will reflect honor upon their father's
memory; as to do so is to also glo-
rify the Name of Yahveh (God) Who
keeps the soul of Deacon Mickens.
